While walking through important historical sites in Querétaro, we may notice
many establishments on the sidewalks selling things like food or radios. Many
citizens and politicians have talked about these ambulant salesmen. There are
two points of view, the people who support these kinds of salesmen and the
people who are against them. I am against these types of salesmen, and hopefully
you will too when you finish reading this essay. The purpose of this essay is to
explain why there should not be ambulant salesmen in Querétaro. The first reason why there should not be ambulant salesmen in Querétaro is
that it is a health hazard. Normally you are able to find food in these
establishments, but I am sorry to say that many times these foods are dirty and
unhealthy. The people who prepare these foods do not wash their hands,
therefore, infecting the food with harmful bacteria. Also the establishments are
close to the dirt, so their foods are exposed to the dusty air and insects. I
used to wonder where these people went to the bathroom because I never saw one
close to their establishments. Well, I was told that these salesmen use the
streets as their bathroom. So you can imagine how clean these places are.
The second reason why there should not be ambulant salesmen in Querétaro is
that their establishments are dangerous. I am sorry to say that some of these
establishments are located close to hospitals. Imagine what would happen if one
day a gas tank of one of the establishments blew up. Unfortunately, not only
would they be injured in the street but also inside the hospital. Many people
have died during the rainy season while shopping at these establishments. This
happens because many cables are left on the ground (these cables are connected
directly to the electric post), and when wet they cause a deadly electric shock.
The third reason why there should not be ambulant salesmen in Querétaro is
that their products are stolen products. Many things they sell there are stolen
which is why they are able to sell their products at a very low price. If people
keep buying there, the salesmen will have to rob more things in order to sell
them. So how can we stop robberies when we are buying stolen products? If we
permit these establishments to sell these products, it would be like saying that
robbing is okay.
The fourth and last reason why there should not be ambulant salesmen in
Querétaro is the impression tourist may have. Many international tourists come
to see our colonial city, but it is really disturbing to see these kind of
establishments in front of historical places. The city is plagued with these
establishments in many historical places. Another thing is since they use the
sidewalks to install their shops, people have to walk on the streets. This is
not a beautiful site for a tourist. Besides it is dangerous to walk on the
streets since many drivers in Mexico are not very polite.
I believe these are excellent reasons why there should not be ambulant
salesmen in Querétaro. Some people disagree because these kinds of
establishments are employing people; however, I still say these shops should be
prohibited. What is the point of saying we should respect private property if
these people do not respect it and the government does not do anything to stop
this. I believe that as loyal citizens we should express how we feel and should
not allow these establishments to exist in Querétaro. They are dangerous,
unhealthy and they promote robberies. Without these kinds of establishments we
will be able to solve many problems that Querétaro has because of these types of
salesmen.
