Student's Comparison or Contrast Essays
I must comment about the first essay on this page, "Cows and Whales" by a
student from Japan. My initial reaction was unbelief, but when I read the
essay, I could see a cultural aspect of Japan that I had never considered, and then I asked myself,
"Why not consider a contrast between cows and whales?"
It's eye-opening to see the world from a new perspective, and in this sense
English Composition teachers are lucky to get insights into other cultures and
thought patterns not normally seen. The Japanese flag indicates the essay is from a
Japanese perspective.
