A Walk to the Market, the Scenic View
March 30
Querétaro is one of Mexico's most beautiful colonial
cities, located in central Mexico about three
hours north of Mexico City by bus.
As I have lived in Querétaro for over ten years now, I
have gotten to know many aspects of the city, especially through long
walks, always three miles a day and twice as far on Saturdays and Sundays. Fortunately, it's almost always possible
to use these walks for both exercise and errands, and most days, I never
use my car at all!
These photos were taken on a walk to "Mercado la Cruz"
(The Cross Market). During the month of March, the scenery along this
route is, and you can see only a small part of it here.
Although the trees have lost most of their small blue leaves, their sweet
fragrance is still noticeable. The walk is incredibly beautiful, and
many times I think, "I wish it were possible for everyone to see
this walk through my eyes." Well, here are just twelve photos, but
they don't display the sounds and smells which is also part of the beauty!
The first three photos are about half way to the market
and toward Querétaro's center; it's the path I almost always take.
The fourth photo is on the way home only a short distance from the
market I have just visited. The photo with the wide sidewalk filled with blue flowers is
less than a mile from home, and the next photo closer still.
I almost always return home past Querétaro's only
Walmart, this pedestrian bridge crossing the highway from the Walmart parking lot.
Of the two photos from the bridge, the first is looking
back toward from where I came. The other is a view of where I will
be going.
Querétaro 2000 is a popular park at
the foot of the pedestrian bridge on the other side of Walmart's parking
lot. The bronze figures are larger than life sized, each about eight
feet tall (or long).
My home from this point is mostly uphill only fifteen minutes away.
It was a great walk, and I am glad I took my camera. The sky was a
little overcast which is unusual in the month of March, but that made the light
perfect for the photos. If you haven't visited
Mexico's historic Querétaro yet, you should because Querétaro is a
beautiful place! Erlyn
